PRESENTATION

The inspiring story of a woman's triumph over life-threatening disease through an unorthodox therapy.

Beata Bishop was devastated when a mole on her leg was diagnosed as malignant melanoma, one of the fastest-spreading types of cancer. She underwent painful, disfiguring surgery and was told that her health problems were over. But within a year the cancer had spread into the lymphatic system and she was confronted with two stark choices: to have further extensive surgery with an uncertain outcome, or do nothing and wait to die at any time between six weeks and six months.

She refused both options and chose instead an alternative treatment, developed by an eminent German physician, the late Dr Max Gerson. His therapy, based on optimum nutrition and thorough detoxification, appealed to her, since it aimed to restore the body's damaged immune system to the stage where it could destroy the malignancy. Taking her fate in her hands, she spent two months at the world's only Gerson clinic in Mexico, learning the theory and practice of the intensive therapy which she then pursued for eighteen months in London.

After two years on the Gerson Therapy, which transformed her both physically and psychologically, Beata Bishop made a full recovery. Today, 17 years later, she enjoys excellent health and vitality.

A Time to Heal, here with a new Introduction and Postscript, is a personal record of courage and determination. It also presents us with a startlingly effective method for treating chronic degenerative diseases - a method whose validity is increasingly confirmed by the latest medical research.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

I should have died of malignant melanoma, one of the fastest-spreading cancers, around June 1981. Today I am healthy in the full sense of the word; not just not-ill but enjoying great well-being and energy. When my secondary cancer was diagnosed in late 1980, 1 was also suffering from diabetes, incipient osteo-arthritis, frequent knockout migraines and chronic dental abscesses. All those ailments have vanished; it is as if I had been granted a second youth. A large part of my right leg, Mutilated by cancer surgery, has grown back. Doctor friends assure me that such regeneration is impossible and 1 believe them - except that I happen to walk on that impossibility every day of my life.

Alongside my physical recovery, I have also undergone an inner transformation that has stripped away many of my fears, burdens and obsolete values, leaving me with a sense of in creased freedom and wholeness. I worry much less and laugh much more than I did in the past. But once you have travelled to the edge of death and then returned to a life more abundant, your ability to worry simply melts away.
